A long history

Two meters under the narrow streets of Bodrum lies 5000 years of history. A few monuments attest to this history:The Bodrum Castle was built by the Knights of St. John of Rhodes in the 15th century against Ottoman incursions.The Roman theatre, which could seat 12,000 spectators, offers a magnificent view from its hilltop location.The Mausoleum of Halicarnassos, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world was built in the 4th c B.C. and was destroyed by an earthquake in the 14th century.

A Southern Area

Gümbet (3 km) A wide shoreline, warm sea make this a popular location. Filled with hotels and motels.Bitez (10 km) A sand beach, cool water temperature and sports facilities make this a favorite of the young crowd. Ortakent (12 Km) The shore is mixed sand and pebbles. Ideal for those who love to swim and do water sports. There are hotels, motels and pensions in the verdant bay.Akyarlar (8 km) Preferred by families for its shallow, warm sea, but accommodations are limited.

Western Area

Turgut Reis (20 km) Named for a famous Ottoman admiral, this bay offers every type of accommodation.Kadı Kalesi A natural shoreline, beautiful sunsets and luxury holiday villages make this a rapidly developing spot.Gümüşlük Popular for seaside fish restaurants and pensions.Yalıkavak Cool summer breezes, stylish hotels and restaurants characterize this bay.

Northern Area

Torba (5 km) One of the most beautiful bays with many pensions.Gölköy (13 km) Clean sea, pretty sandy breach and delicious food.Türkbükü (15 km) Small piers are transformed into romantic restaurants at night. You can find seasonal rentals, motels and pensions.
